COMMUNITY COLLEGE ROUNDUP : El Camino Is No Match for Long Beach

The Long Beach City College men’s basketball team defeated El Camino, 95-81, Wednesday in a South Coast Conference basketball game at El Camino.
Long Beach, ranked second in the state by the JC Athletic Bureau, is 22-3 overall and 2-0 in league play. The Warriors fell to 17-8 and 1-1.
The Warriors scored only one field goal in the first nine minutes of the game, and with 6:24 left in the first half they trailed, 34-13. Long Beach led, 46-19, at halftime.
Kieshaun Darthard led El Camino with a game-high 26 points. The sophomore guard scored nine of the Warriors’ 19 points in the first half. El Camino freshman forward Steve King had 14 points and guard Mike Houck scored 12 of his 13 points in the second half.
The Vikings maintained a 20-point lead throughout most of the second half. Center Victor Camper led Long Beach with 23 points and guard Derek Knowles had 22.
