Taking Issue With the Saintly Light That Costner Shines Upon Native Americans
- Share via
A Dec. 30 Outtakes column item discussed scenes from 1990 movies that ended up on the cutting-room floor. In the item, Neil Travis and Kevin Costner did not mention the length of the “Broken Forest” scene that was cut due to time restraints. While I enjoyed the film and look forward to seeing it again, there is one question: Would it have been possible to delete the consummation of the relationship between the characters Dunbar and Stands With Fist so the “Broken Forest” scene could have been included?
Mr. Costner was successful in capturing the characters’ feelings and I believe the audience knew where this relationship was going.
There is nothing wrong with implied intimacy.
