Sea Cadet Surprises at Bay Meadows

SAN MATEO, Ca. — Sea Cadet won an early battle with Gold Coast Express and then held on in the stretch to defeat favored General Meeting by three-quarters of a length in Saturday’s $300,000 El Camino Real Derby at Bay Meadows.
The winner, ridden by Tom Chapman, ran the 1 1/16 miles in 1:40 3/5 and paid $16.40, $5 and $4.40. General Meeting, with Laffit Pincay riding, returned $2.80 and $2.60. Mizter Interco, ridden by Tim Doocy, was third in the nine-horse field of three-year-olds and paid $3.20.
