Loyola Women Fall to Pepperdine

Trina Runge scored on a driving layup with 22 seconds left to give the Pepperdine women’s basketball team a 79-77 victory over Loyola Marymount Saturday at Gersten Pavilion.
The Lions fought back from a 69-58 deficit in the final seven minutes to tie the score, 77-77, with 1:17 to go on a 16-foot jump shot by Christy Fortney.
Pepperdine ran down the shot clock and after a timeout, Runge scored the winning basket, only her second of the game.
The Lions’ Lisa Humphreys missed a three-point shot with three seconds left. The Lions regained possession as time ran out, but Humphreys missed a desperation halfcourt shot.
The Waves are now 9-9 overall and 2-2 in the West Coast Conference. The Lions are 8-10 and 1-3.
Shannon Frowiss led the Waves with 29 points and 15 rebounds. Joelle Longobardi topped Loyola with a career-high 26 points and 11 rebounds. Lynn Flanagan added 18 points and Tricia Gibson 14 for the Lions.
