Du Pont Unveils Ozone-Saving Refrigerants: The Wilmington, Del., chemical maker said the new line is designed to replace chlorofluorocarbons, cooling gases linked to depletion of the ozone layer and the so-called greenhouse effect. The new products, to be sold under the trade name Suva, carry “low or no potential to deplete ozone,” said Du Pont Vice Chairman Elwood P. Blanchard. They are for commercial and industrial refrigeration systems, automobile air conditioners and refrigerators. Du Pont said it also is developing ozone-saving replacements for refrigerants in existing cooling systems.
