A Carson shopkeeper who locked himself in his store to hold a shoplifter for authorities shot and killed one of three men who tried to break through a glass door to free the suspect, sheriff’s detectives said Tuesday.
Leland Sua, 18, was found by deputies in a car parked in 22400 block of Island Street Street about 8 p.m. Monday. He had been shot once in the side and died a short time later at a nearby hospital.
Sheriff’s Lt. Ben Nottingham said Sua was allegedly shot by the owner of a mini-market on Avalon Boulevard.
The storekeeper, whose name was withheld, allegedly shot at Sua and two other men as they broke the glass on the front door. They apparently were trying to reach a 13-year-old boy the shopkeeper had caught taking merchandise.
