EARNINGS : Sara Lee Income Rises 11.7%

CHICAGO — Sara Lee Corp. today reported record second-quarter earnings of $166.8 million, or 68 cents a share, for the period ended Dec. 29, up 11.7% from $149.3 million, or 61 cents a share, a year ago.
For the six-month period, the company also posted record earnings of $273.1 million, or $1.10 a share, up 12.3% from $243.1 million, or 99 cents a share, in 1990.
Sales for the quarter rose 8.3% to $3.4 billion, and six-month sales jumped 9.9% to $6.4 billion, the company said.
Sara Lee’s brand lines include Sara Lee, Hillshire Farm, Ball Park, Jimmy Dean, Hanes, Hanes Her Way, L’eggs, Champion, Kiwi, Douwe Egberts and Dim.
