Daniel Reimer Schwarz, who owned the Matchmaker Bar in Burbank for 11 years, has died at a Burbank hospital. He was 73.
A longtime resident of Burbank, Schwarz died Jan. 16 of cancer, said a longtime friend, Judith Meman.
Born Nov. 21, 1917, in Buffalo, N. Y., Schwarz came to California in the mid-1940s. During the 1950s, he managed a bar in the Los Feliz area before purchasing the Matchmaker Bar in 1975. Schwarz doubled as the bar’s manager and was known for lending money to customers in need, Meman said. In 1986, he sold the bar and retired.
He has no immediate survivors. Services will be private. The Alpha Cremation Society in Burbank is handling the arrangements.
