GUATEMALA CITY — The U.S. Embassy accused Guatemala’s former director of immigration of trafficking in undocumented workers and revoked his visa to travel to the United States, the interior minister said today.
Interior Minister Ricardo Mendez Ruiz said U.S. Ambassador Thomas Stroock told him that former Immigration Director Arturo Chur is suspected of “illicit traffic of persons” and will not be permitted to enter the United States.
Chur served as director of Guatemala’s immigration services during the last three years of former President Vinicio Cerezo Arevalo’s government and left his post with the Jan. 14 change of government.
