Geri Gainey made a three-point basket with three seconds left to give Fresno State a 73-72 women’s basketball victory over Cal State Long Beach Wednesday night at Long Beach.
It was only the second time in Big West Conference history that Long Beach had lost to a league opponent. Last season, the 49ers were defeated by Nevada Las Vegas at home.
Long Beach, which led, 34-32, at halftime, drops to 8-7 and 3-3 in the conference. Fresno is 10-6, 3-3.
Gainey led Fresno with 20 points. Vjera Kaludjerovich had 22 points for Long Beach.
This is the first time that the 49ers have lost four home games in a season since Joan Bonvicini became coach in 1979.
