NATION IN BRIEF : ILLINOIS : Homeless Robber Favors Prison Cell

A homeless man was sentenced to 37 months for a bank robbery he said he committed so he could get shelter and help with medical and drinking problems in prison. U.S. District Judge Paul E. Plunkett in Chicago expressed sympathy for the plight of John Antonio Morocco, 51, but denied a bid for leniency. A prosecutor argued that the heist was Morocco’s second bank robbery, and that he earlier “went on a spree with the bank’s money.”
