Snow-Boarding Success: Though the drought has skiers sulking about the lack of snow in the Sierra Nevada, Ocean Pacific Sunwear Ltd. has proclaimed its recent snow-boarding event at June Mountain to be a big success.
Sure, the sport has yet to achieve the popularity of surfing contests or the big prize money of golf. But that didn’t stop 300 spectators buying tickets on one day alone for the three-day Op Pro of Snowboarding that finished up last weekend.
The Tustin-based Ocean Pacific sponsors the contest every year to promote its line of snow-boarding fashions. Surf-wear makers have increasingly turned to snow boarding--a sport similar to surfing in the snow--to try to develop year-round businesses.
