Pregnant Woman Is Shot in Head

An 18-year-old Athens area woman who was nine months’ pregnant was in extremely critical condition Saturday after a 14-year-old relative shot her in the head.
Doctors at Martin Luther King Jr. Hospital delivered Martha E. Rodriguez’s 9-pound baby girl immediately after the 11:30 a.m. shooting. The baby was listed in good condition.
Sheriff’s Lt. Charles Schultz said other family members who witnessed the shooting at 1723 1/2 W. 105th St. told police that the boy may have fired the shot accidentally.
The youth fled the after the incident, Schultz said. Detectives are trying to find him for questioning.
