Gov. Wilson’s Proposed Budget Cuts
Wilson states that he plans to handle school enrollment growth by asking for volunteers. I have been employed for more than 30 years as an educator in California public schools and I find the governor’s remarks very damaging to my professional self-esteem. Looking to the future, how can we possibly expect our college-age students to choose to be a teacher when the governor proposes to ask for volunteers instead of hiring new teachers?
If the leader of our state is really interested in balancing the budget, I suggest that he resign and let an unpaid volunteer take over. It’s obvious that it takes no training to do the governor’s job.
