Walter A. (Hoot) Evers, 69, a former Detroit outfielder and then a Tiger executive, died Friday at St. Luke’s Hospital in Houston after a short illness.
Evers finished with a lifetime .278 average and 98 home runs with Detroit, the Boston Red Sox, New York Giants, Baltimore Orioles and Cleveland Indians.
