I radically disagree with Valentina Verdugo’s comments about the “Columbo” television series (Viewers Views, Jan. 6). The characters who commit the murders are never written to be imbecilic--they are always clever, calculating people with a clear goal in mind and often use imaginative means to avoid detection. Also, the series invites the audience to identify with the Columbo character, not to feel superior to him or to his antagonists.
