Micropolis Says Profit Totals $3.75 Million

Micropolis Corp., a Chatsworth maker of computer disk drives, said it had a profit of $3.75 million in the three months that ended Dec. 28, contrasted with a loss of $2.19 million a year earlier. The company’s sales for the period jumped 33% to $108 million, from $80.9 million a year before.

For all of 1990, Micropolis showed a profit of $7.93 million after losing $49.8 million in 1989. The company’s sales in 1990 were $381 million, up 24% from $307 million in 1989.

In a statement, Chief Financial Officer Dale Bartos attributed the improved performance to a shift in sales toward more expensive computer disk drives and away from other drives whose prices fell during the fourth quarter.
