Tim Rutten’s article nearly made me lose my breakfast. Articles like that should bear a warning: “Saccharine content too intense for the average, intelligent reader.”
The reason Rutten found so many viewers who hated the “Degenerate Art” exhibit is not because they are latent Nazis, Jesse Helmses or National Endowment for the Arts toadies, but because the art works (with some notable exceptions) are for the most part simply nasty caricatures, exhibiting rather modest ability.
