Police Commission

On behalf of the boards of both the Hollywood Policy Center and the Hollywood Women’s Political Committee, we want to congratulate Mayor Tom Bradley for his appoint of Stanley Sheinbaum to the Los Angeles Police Commission (“ACLU Figure Named to Police Board,” Part A, March 16). We urge a swift confirmation of this appointment by the City Council.
Sheinbaum is held in high esteem by many within the Westside Jewish and entertainment community. No other individual we can think of brings to today’s volatile situation such strong and longstanding relationships to both the Jewish and black communities in this city. Sheinbaum has long served as a bridge to the Westside for the less visible and more voiceless groups in Los Angeles.
His longstanding commitment to civil rights and civil liberties is well-known. His tenure on the Board of Regents of the University of California has certainly given him an appreciation for and understanding of how to work well with many varied interests and for the good of government serving the public.
