League to Honor Health Care Work

Four San Diego-area women and a clinic will be honored by the League of Women Voters of San Diego today for their contributions to health care.
The awards are being presented at a luncheon at the Marriott Hotel-Marina beginning at 11:30 a.m.
The recipients of the “Women of Vision” awards are:
* Silvia Benito of La Jolla for her work as volunteer advocate for Latino cancer patients at Scripps Memorial Hospital-La Jolla.
* Lorraine Freitas, a Pacific Beach nurse whose efforts helped push through the Legislature bills to improve prenatal care by increasing the state’s Medi-Cal reimbursement.
* Mary Jo Grubbs of Spring Valley, who worked on the San Diego Community Health Care Alliance’s project to increase access to care for the uninsured.
* Holly Lorentson of San Diego, director of San Diego Hospice, for her work on behalf of hospice care.
* Womancare Clinic in Hillcrest, for providing abortion services and self-help skills to medically indigent women who otherwise would not have access to such care.
