Beth Burns, artistic director of the St. Joseph Ballet in Santa Ana, has been awarded a $5,000 choreographers fellowship from the California Arts Council. Burns, one of 21 choreographers statewide to receive the awards, said she may use the money to broaden her artistic vision by traveling. “It’s an honor to be recognized for what we do artistically, since (we’re most well-known) for our social mission,” said Burns, who founded the troupe in 1985 to offer training and dance opportunities to disadvantaged, inner-city youth.
