California’s Melting Pot

Your editorial (“Goodby Immigrant Stereotype,” March 11) regarding the RAND Corp. study of illegal Mexican immigrants to the U.S. may be alarming to some residents of this state. But Californians of Anglo descent should be reminded of the fact that our forefathers took this state from Mexico by a force of arms in 1846.
It should have been apparent for some time that the descendants of those vanquished Mexicans are retaking California in a peaceful, if not a legal manner, by a force of numbers. A very good friend (who is one of those Mexican descendants) refers to the movement as reconquista .
