PREP BASEBALL ROUNDUP : Laguna Hills Beats Costa Mesa With No-Hitter

Although Ted Wilkes was less than perfect in the seventh inning, he held onto his no-hitter and helped Laguna Hills to a 7-1 victory over Costa Mesa in a Pacific Coast League baseball game Tuesday at Laguna Hills.
Wilkes (2-0), a senior right-hander, struck out 13 and pitched a perfect six innings before the first batter in the seventh reached on an error. Wilkes then walked a batter and hit the next batter before Costa Mesa scored its only run on a double-play ball.
Wilkes, who was a second-team All-Pacific Coast League outfielder last season, also hit a two-run home run in the fourth inning. Dale Douglass had two hits, including a three-run home run in the sixth, and drove in four runs for Laguna Hills.
In other Pacific League games:
Trabuco Hills 3, Estancia 0--Jeff Beckley threw a five-hitter with two walks and five strikeouts for Trabuco Hills. Steve Height had two hits and Gibson Gomez had a hit and an RBI for visiting Trabuco Hills (5-6, 2-2).
Century 6, Laguna Beach 3--Tom Reimers allowed nine hits and had seven strikeouts and no walks in a complete game for visiting Century (2-8, 1-3). Hector Martinez had a home run and a double, and Mark Garcia had three hits and two RBIs for Century. Laguna Beach is 3-8-1, 2-2.
In the Freeway League:
La Habra 4, Fullerton 3--La Habra (5-2, 3-0) tied the score in the bottom of the seventh on a bases-loaded walk, and Mark Picco drove in the winning run with a sacrifice fly. Fullerton had two unearned runs in the sixth and another in the seventh to take a 3-2 lead.
In the Garden Grove League:
La Quinta 7, Kenney 1--Walter Dawkins hit his fourth home run and pitched three innings in relief for the victory for host La Quinta (14-3, 4-0). Chad Leckie hit a three-run home run as La Quinta scored all seven runs in the first inning.
Bolsa Grande 3, Garden Grove 0--Bill Kercher’s squeeze bunt scored Larry White from third and Tony Troung from second for visiting Bolsa Grande. Darin Dabalack (1-5) had a three-hitter with six strikeouts and two walks for Bolsa Grande (3-8, 1-2). Garden Grove is 3-6, 2-2.
Santiago 5, Rancho Alamitos 2--Louie Perez pitched 4 2/3 innings of relief, striking out six and allowing one hit. Perez drove in a run with a bunt single in the bottom of the sixth to give Santiago a 3-2 lead. Todd DeVaney hit a two-run home run in the third inning for Santiago (9-5, 2-1).
In the Orange League:
Brea-Olinda 6, Savanna 2--Marc Kaiser threw a two-hitter with six strikeouts and Jesse Willis had two hits and two RBIs for visiting Brea-Olinda (7-6, 3-0).
In the South Coast League:
Capistrano Valley 8, San Clemente 4--Brand Caso hit a two-run home run and Scott Patton hit a three-run home run for host Capistrano Valley (8-4, 1-1).
In the Olympic League:
Orange Lutheran 8, Brethren Christian 5--J.P. Presley hit a two-run double in the first inning for host Orange Lutheran (7-1, 2-0). Brethren Christian is 3-2, 0-2.
