SIMI VALLEY : Driver Slightly Hurt as Train Grazes Car
- Share via
An Amtrak train smashed the front end of a car that stopped a bit too close to the tracks at a railroad crossing in Simi Valley Thursday evening, but the driver suffered only minor injuries, authorities said.
According to witnesses, the crossing gates came down on the roof of the car, yet the driver, who was not identified, did not back up the car. The train nicked the front of the vehicle, a witness said, causing major damage.
The incident happened shortly after 7:30 p.m. at Sycamore Drive and Los Angeles Avenue, causing traffic at the busy intersection to be rerouted until the accident scene was cleared.
The accident caused a small fuel spill that was mopped up by Ventura County Fire Department personnel.
