Nation IN BRIEF : WASHINGTON, D.C. : Bushes’ Tax Return Shows Income Drop
- Share via
Losses suffered by President Bush’s blind trust helped to trim the family income to $452,732 in 1990 from $456,780 the year before, tax returns released by the White House showed. The Bushes’ tax bill was $99,241, down from $101,382 on 1989 income. The family’s 1040 form showed it was due a refund of $14,129 for 1990, but the President opted to apply $10,000 of that to 1991 taxes. Well over half the income came from Bush’s blind trust; it also included the President’s $200,000 salary and $1,000 that Barbara Bush was paid for an article, printed in Reader’s Digest last fall, on the importance of reading to children.
