PREP ROUNDUP : Bowerbank’s Upset Gives University 10-8 Tennis Victory

John Bowerbank, University’s No. 2 singles player, defeated Beverly Hills’ No. 1 player, Ravi Aysola, to give the Trojans a 10-8 victory in a nonleague boys’ tennis match Monday at Beverly Hills.

University (15-1) is ranked No. 3 in the Southern Section Division 4-A. Beverly Hills is No. 4. Bowerbank, the only University player to win all his sets, beat Aysola, 6-4, and won his other sets, 7-5, 6-4.

In the Tops in CIF golf invitational:

Huntington Beach wins--Scott Gibson shot six-over 78 despite high winds to lead Huntington Beach to the tournament’s team title at Spring Valley Lake Country Club in Victorville. The three-man Huntington Beach team finished with 246. Trabuco Hills (249) was second, Marina (251) fourth and El Toro (254) fifth.

In Sea View softball:

Saddleback 4, Newport Harbor 2--Desi Abrego had a no-hitter through six innings to lead Saddleback (10-6, 3-0) at Newport Harbor. Ali Bary led off the seventh with a bloop single for Newport Harbor (7-5, 0-3).
