Walter W. Williams, vice chairman, president and chief operating officer of Rubbermaid Inc., Wooster, Ohio, has been elected chairman and chief executive, effective May 1, succeeding Stanley C. Gault, who will retire. Gault will remain a director and consultant to the company. Wolfgang R. Schmitt, executive vice president, will succeed Williams as president and chief operating officer.
