Ruptured Pipeline Spills Gas Into Harbor

About 200 barrels of gasoline spilled from a ruptured pipeline at a Wilmington fuel storage yard, and some ran into a storm drain and into the Los Angeles Harbor on Tuesday.
Workers contained the spill, which was reported about 1 a.m., by setting a protective boom across the Northwest Slip, an area of about six berths in the harbor’s west basin, Coast Guard officials said. The cleanup operation was turned over to a private contractor, they said.
Cause of the pipeline rupture at a Western Fuels storage yard was unknown, officials said.
