Airline Companies: UAL Corp., Chicago-based parent of United Airlines, reported a first-quarter net loss of $157 million, compared to a net loss of $36.4 million for the year-ago period. Revenue rose slightly to $2.56 billion from $2.52 billion a year ago. The company said the “dismal first-quarter results” were due primarily to reduction in air travel because of the Persian Gulf War. Delta Air Lines reported a third-quarter net loss of $84.1 million, contrasted with net income of $26.7 million in the year-ago period. The Atlanta-based company had revenue of $2.3 billion, a 10% increase over last year’s $2.1 billion.
