IRVINE : Focus on Armenians Concludes Seminars
- Share via
A series of four community-awareness seminars will end Wednesday with a program about Armenian culture.
The hourlong seminar and display are scheduled at noon Wednesday at City Hall. Admission is free.
Irvine’s cultural seminars offer information and history of ethnic cultures in Orange County to help make area residents and city employees more familiar and comfortable with people of varying backgrounds. Previous seminars were given on the Jewish, Chinese and Japanese cultures.
The seminars are held in cooperation with the Historical and Cultural Foundation of Orange County.
The city’s Cultural Affairs Commission scheduled the lunchtime seminars after groups of Irvine residents verbally sparred last December over whether the city should allow a Christmas tree outside the Civic Center. Opponents said a city-sponsored religious symbol would be insensitive to their religious beliefs and to the beliefs of others.
