HIGH SCHOOL ROUNDUP : University City Rallies to Defeat Mission Bay

University City rallied for four runs in the top of the seventh inning then held off No. 7 Mission Bay for a 7-5 City Western League baseball victory Monday at Mission Bay.
Starting pitcher Jay Parmenter broke a 5-5 tie with two outs in the seventh with a two-run triple. In relief, Adam Stuart (1-0) picked up the victory, allowing one run in the final three innings.
With the victory, University City (13-5, 5-2) moved just percentage points behind idle USDHS (13-7, 4-1). The Dons play La Jolla today. Mission Bay (14-6, 4-2) fell to third.
Catcher Jason Enomoto was two for three with two runs batted in for the Buccaneers.
City Central League
Madison 4, San Diego 1--To break a tie for first place, Mike Jones (4-3) pitched a two-hitter, and teammate Rob Hoffman went two for three with two RBIs for Madison (8-8, 5-1).
Sophomore left-hander Jacque Jones (3-2) struck out 14 and gave up seven hits in the losing cause as the Cavers fell to 13-6-1, 4-2.
Hoover 7, Crawford 4--Jim Morgans threw four shutout innings to give Hoover its second victory of the season. It was also Morgans’ second victory. The Cardinals are 2-15, 1-6. Crawford, hoping to challenge for the league title, fell to 6-11, 4-3.
Byron Limbrick was two for four and Joe Knuteson two for three for Hoover. Each added an RBI. Johnny Verdin went three for five with two RBIs for Crawford.
City Eastern League
Mira Mesa 12, Point Loma 2--First place Mira Mesa jumped to a 9-0 lead after 2 1/2 innings. The fifth-ranked Marauders (17-4-1, 5-1) were led by Brendan Hause (three for three, three RBIs), Marc Nielsen (two for two, one RBI) and Frankie Edsall (two for four, one RBI).
Winning pitcher Mike Bovee (5-2) had six strikeouts in three innings of work.
Patrick Henry 10, Serra 9--Patrick Henry rallied for two runs in the bottom of the seventh to win remain a half game behind Mira Mesa. Mike Jurado, who got the victory with 2 1/3 innings of relief, walked with the bases loaded, sending home Tony Davis with the winning run with one out.
Tony Bedikian (three for four, two RBIs) led off the inning with a single. After Tony Davis walked, catcher Dennis Twombley (two for two) singled in Bedikian. Ken Cannizzaro then walked to load the bases.
Serra (14-9-1, 2-5) led 6-0 after 2 1/2 innings, but the Patriots (7-9, 5-2) scored four in the bottom of the third. Patrick Henry then led 8-7, but Serra scored two in the top of the seventh.
Mike Bledsoe was two for four with an RBI, and Milo Rodriguez had two RBIs for the Conquistadors.
City Harbor League
Christian 16, Marian 5--Chad DeGrenier led Christian (7-7, 5-2) by going three for four with a three-run homer and a two-run double. All nine players in Christian’s lineup scored at least one run and no one scored more than two. Marian fell to 6-12-1, 0-7.
Citrus League
Midway Baptist 8, Calvin Christian 3--John Taylor (7-1) threw a three-hitter and had seven strikeouts as Midway Baptist (12-3, 6-1) remained in first. Teammate Brian Hendry was two for four with two RBIs.
