SOUTHERN SECTION PLAYOFF ROUNDUP : One Run Stands Up for Thousand Oaks

The Thousand Oaks High softball team turned one run into a 1-0 win over visiting Righetti in a Southern Section 5-A Division wild-card playoff game Tuesday.
In the sixth inning of a scoreless game, Christy Collier singled, took second on a wild pitch and was sacrificed to third. With one out, Suzy Klusyk hit an infield chopper and Collier beat the throw to the plate, giving Thousand Oaks (16-10) the only run it would need.
Thousand Oaks will face Buena in a first-round game Thursday.
In other softball playoff games:
Simi Valley 12, Santa Maria 1--Simi Valley’s Taina Tande was three for five with four runs batted in and three runs scored in the 5-A Division wild-card game at Santa Maria.
Tande had a single, double and two-run home run to lead Simi Valley’s 10-hit attack. Amy Powell was two for three with an RBI and a run scored and Heather Santiago had two hits and also threw a five-hitter for Simi Valley (19-5).
Santiago (6-2) struck out seven and walked one.
BASEBALL
Victor Valley 5, Palmdale 3--Oscar Gomez had three hits, including a home run, to beat visiting Palmdale in a 5-A Division wild-card game. Anthony Ortega and Jeff Pica each had two hits for the Falcons.
Rio Hondo Prep 8, Oakwood 6--Rio Hondo Prep (13-4) took advantage of seven errors to score six unearned runs and win a Small Schools wild-card game. John Levine had three hits and Matt Williams hit a two-run double for Oakwood (10-8).
