Van Nuys Man Killed in Drive-by Shooting

A Van Nuys man whose car broke down outside a hospital was killed Tuesday in a drive-by shooting believed to be gang-related, Los Angeles police said.
Jose Manuel Granados, 18, died at Valley Presbyterian Hospital from a gunshot wound to the chest, Detective James Vojtecky said.
When police arrived at the site of the shooting on Noble Avenue near Vanowen Street, they found that Granados already had been carried across the street to the hospital.
The victim was driving with a friend when his car stalled. After they got out and opened the hood, a white pickup truck pulled alongside and the passenger fired at least two shots, Vojtecky said. One bullet hit Granados, who collapsed.
The killing took place less than two hours after a student was slain outside Millikan Junior High School in Sherman Oaks, also by gunmen in a white pickup truck. Vojtecky said the two incidents apparently were unrelated because of differences in the descriptions of the two pickup trucks and because different gangs were believed to be involved.
