I couldn’t help remarking upon the juxtaposition of two stories on your front page (May 15): “Queen Begins U.S. Visit Amid Toasts, Pomp,” and “Winnie Mandela Is Sentenced to 6 Years in Prison.”
While we remain allies and spiritually harmonious with colonialist Great Britain, the erstwhile victims of centuries of British-promoted white supremacy continue to suffer political and economic injustice. When are we actually going to implement the principles of freedom and democracy, instead of merely mouthing platitudes about them and plastering them to our car bumpers?
