Father Faughnan of St. Catherine Dies

LAGUNA BEACH — Father Myles Faughnan, pastor of St. Catherine Catholic Church, died Monday night of cancer.
He was 68.
Faughnan, who was born in Cavan, Ireland, had served as pastor of St. Catherine for 18 years. His ministry spanned 45 years in Southern California and included assignments in El Monte, Los Angeles, Long Beach, Wilmington and Sylmar. He studied for his ordination to the priesthood at All Hallows College in Dublin, Ireland.
“Father Faughnan was a gentlemen of God,” said Lawrence J. Baird, director of communications for the Catholic Diocese of Orange. “He had no other vocation, no other ambition except the church.
Funeral Mass was scheduled for 10:30 a.m. today at the church, 900 Temple Terrace in Laguna Beach.
