PACIFIC HEAT: T. Jefferson Parker’s new book, “Pacific Beat,” is a novel set in Orange County, but on Page 287 one of Parker’s fictional characters takes a swipe at real-life developer Kathryn Thompson and her controversial Laguna Audubon housing tract: “Wipe out the birds, name housing after them. That, in my mind, is the kind of arrogance that typifies the development cartel.”
