USDHS, La Jolla Make Finals

USDHS reached the 2-A San Diego Section tennis finals for the first time by beating third-seeded San Pasqual, 10-8, Wednesday.
USDHS (19-3), the No. 2 seed, sewed up the victory when No. 2 singles player Paul Corona scored a 6-2 third-round upset of No. 1 Jeff Young of San Pasqual (21-4).
USDHS’s Chris Tontz (singles) and Jay Tontz and Jay Prior (doubles) swept.
In another 2-A match:
La Jolla 15, La Jolla Country Day 3--James Conda, David Smith and Simon Kurth swept for No. 1 La Jolla (16-2).
Division 3-A
Mt. Carmel 10, Poway 8--Second-seeded Mt. Carmel (15-6) swept doubles play in the third round to beat the third-seeded defending champions.
Torrey Pines 12, Mira Mesa 6--Sophomore Derek Baker and freshman Taryn Burgk swept three sets for the top-seeded Falcons (17-2).
Badminton
Third-seeded Linh Truong of Hoover upset No. 1 Sombath Villitchai of San Diego, 11-7, 11-4, to advance to today’s girls’ singles championship. Truong faces her teammate, No. 2 Phung Hua.
The top boys’ seeds, San Diego’s Somack Monsavath and Crawford’s Tho Thai, also won.
