HUNTINGTON BEACH — A gunman fired twice into an elementary school during classes Tuesday afternoon but no students were hurt, police said.
The shooting occurred after two men argued in a parking lot outside Oak View Elementary School about 2:10 p.m., Police Sgt. Dan Johnson said. The gunman gave chase as the other man ran around the school and ducked inside a set of double doors. The shooter fired twice through the doors and then fled in a blue subcompact car, Johnson said.
The victim, whom witnesses did not recognize, left before police arrived and it was not known if he was hit.
The assailant was described as a Latino in his 20s with black hair, wearing black pants and a white T-shirt with black lettering. He had a blue sweat shirt draped over his arm to conceal a handgun, Johnson said.
Police said children were in class at the time and not in the area of the shooting.
