Barbara Yaroslavsky was accompanied by Riordan and city Controller Rick Tuttle, among others, when she announced her candidacy at the Los Angeles Free Clinic, where she works as a volunteer.
As of yesterday’s filing deadline, nine other candidates have declared their intention to run for the 5th District seat.
The field includes former school board member Roberta Weintraub, prosecutor Lea Purwin D’Agostino and Mike Feuer, former executive director of a Jewish legal services center. Others who filed papers are anthropologist Martin Korn, urban planner Didacus Ramos, communications specialist Dan McCrory, businessmen Farid Afshar and Jeff Brain and attorney Shane Sagheb.
The 5th District is made up of the Fairfax district, Palms, the eastern half of West Los Angeles, Westwood, Bel-Air, Sherman Oaks and Studio City.
