SANTA ANA — A 35-year-old man died after being struck by two vehicles on a street late Saturday, police said.
Alejandro Ruiz Perez, described as homeless, was walking in the middle of the 3000 block of West 5th Street in Santa Ana at 11 p.m. when he was struck by the first vehicle, Santa Ana police said.
Cecilio Quezada Jr., of Anaheim, stopped his car after he hit Perez, Sgt. Anthony Levatino said. Perez was again struck, by a pickup truck, as Quezada went to check on him. The pickup sped away after hitting the victim.
Police did not arrest Quezada, 23. “It was pretty dark,” Levatino said. Investigators said they did not know if Perez died after being struck by the first or second vehicle.
Authorities are seeking the driver of the second vehicle, a white Toyota four-wheel drive pickup truck. Anyone with information about the vehicle or its driver is asked to call Santa Ana Police at (714) 834-4801.
