A former Oxnard attorney has been convicted of grand theft and faces up to three years in state prison, prosecutors said Tuesday.
Carlos Yanez pleaded no contest to grand theft by embezzlement in Ventura County Superior Court on Feb. 3, prosecutors said in a news release.
Yanez embezzled about $52,000 from a client’s trust account between July 17, 1990, and April 24, 1991, officials said. Neither Yanez nor Deputy Dist. Atty. Bill Redmond, who is prosecuting the case, could be reached for comment.
The news release said Yanez paid off personal debts with the embezzled money.
Sentencing is scheduled for April 7.
