WASHINGTON — U.S. agricultural exports should reach a record $48.5 billion in the current fiscal year, the Department of Agriculture said Wednesday, raising its forecast $3.5 billion since November.
Improved export prospects for bulk goods such as wheat, corn and other coarse grains, oil seeds and cotton accounted for $2.8 billion of the increase. Further gains were also forecast for high-value products such as poultry, livestock, fruits, nuts and vegetables, expected to account for $28 billion of the total.
Exports were $43.5 billion for fiscal 1994, which ended Sept. 30. The current record is $43.8 billion, set in 1981.
