FULLERTON : City Budget Cuts, Higher Fees Suggested

In its final report to the City Council, the Fullerton Financial Advisory Committee this week has recommended raising fees and supporting the continued downsizing efforts by city departments to cut costs.
The committee recommended boosting the fire protection subscriber fee from $20 per household to $24 to generate $50,000 a year. It also recommended cutting the operation chief and an inspector’s position for a savings of $110,000, and also reducing by one the staffing on the four-person paramedic vans for an additional savings of $150,000.
The committee report also suggested that the council consider closing a fire station, even though it conceded that the move “is not really practical.”
Regarding the city’s participation in the failed Orange County investment pool, the committee recommended “some action be taken to replace the loss through some existing or new revenue-producing vehicle.” No details as to how to raise the revenue were provided.
No cuts or changes were recommended for the Redevelopment Agency because its projects produce revenue and jobs, according to the report.
