Palmdale Girls Get a Victory Over Bishop Montgomery Without Taking the Court

The Palmdale High girls’ team, which lost only three games during the regular season, has received a forfeit victory from a 55-49 loss to Bishop Montgomery in the Brea Olinda tournament on Dec. 6.
Palmdale Coach George Corisis said two Bishop Montgomery players were not cleared for open enrollment by the Southern Section at the time. Palmdale’s record is 24-2.
Football
Michael Lewis, junior running back-defensive back at Burbank High, has transferred to North Hollywood.
Lewis was the Bulldogs’ second-leading rusher with 277 yards and a touchdown in 70 carries.
Hart High quarterback Steve McKeon said he will accept an appointment to the U.S. Military Academy at West Point.
McKeon, 5 feet 8, passed for 6,259 yards and 63 touchdowns in two seasons for Hart, which won the Southern Section Division II championship in December.
Jurisprudence
Jury selection has begun in San Bernardino Superior Court for the retrial of former Cal State Northridge football player Jonathan Beauregard and testimony is scheduled to begin Tuesday.
Beauregard is charged with two counts of attempted murder. His first trial resulted in a hung jury.
Soccer
Chaminade senior midfielder Mike Wright has been selected Mission League defensive player of the year.
Baseball
Birmingham High is looking for participants for its alumni game on Feb. 24.

University of San Francisco’s Rich Igou was named pitcher of the week in the West Coast Conference.
The former Notre Dame High player posted a 2-0 record and an earned-run average of 0.75. He is 3-0 with a 1.08 ERA.
Softball
Cal State Northridge was picked to finish second in the Western Athletic Conference in a poll of conference coaches.
The Matadors (5-1) open WAC play Mar. 10 at home against Colorado State.
Third baseman Chris Gill of Saugus High has committed to Arizona State.
Gill, a two-time All-Valley selection, batted .385 last season and had 37 runs batted in.
Golf
PGA professionals Duffy Waldorf, Chuck Montalbano, Mike Reid and Bud Allin are among the players scheduled to play in the sixth annual Steve Pate charity golf tournament Monday at North Ranch Country Club.

Swimming
Buena junior Matt Carter finished third in the 800-meter freestyle at the U.S. National championships Sunday in Orlando, Fla. He was timed in 8:26.31.
