Very early on April 28, the Olympic Torch will begin its daylong trip across Orange County on its way from Greece to Atlanta.
Carried by former Olympians, recognized community volunteers and a few people selected by lottery, the torch is scheduled to arrive in Seal Beach at 3:16 a.m. and travel along Pacific Coast Highway to San Diego County.
The flame will pass through Sunset Beach, Huntington Beach, Newport Beach, Corona del Mar, Laguna Beach, Dana Point and San Clemente, moving along continuously except for a one-hour layover in Huntington Beach.
In all, the torch will pass through 42 states plus Washington, D.C., before it arrives July 19 in Atlanta’s Olympic Stadium.
The cross-country relay is “designed to share the Olympic flame, the most vivid and brilliant symbol of the Olympics, with millions of Americans,” said Billy Payne, president of the Atlanta Committee for the Olympic Games.
