Gunman in Canada Kills 9, Self

TORONTO — Ten people died Friday when a man went on a shooting rampage as his estranged wife’s family gathered for a wedding celebration.
Nine people--including the wife and her sister, the bride--were shot to death at a residence in Vernon, a city of 23,500 in the interior of British Columbia.
The killer then went to a nearby hotel and took his own life, according to the Royal Canadian Mounted Police.
Two people were wounded, an elderly woman and a 6-year-old girl. Both were in stable condition after surgery. Two other children at the home escaped injury.
Police said the gunman left a suicide note apologizing for the rampage but gave no explanation.
The groom learned of the massacre en route to the wedding.
The rampage was the second-worst murder in Canada’s history. The deadliest occurred in 1989, when gunman Marc Lepine killed 14 women at the University of Montreal before shooting himself.
