Simi Valley Continues Gold Rush With 11-6 Win

Billy Castonguay had four hits, including a two-run home run, and drove in five runs as Simi Valley High beat Barstow, 11-6, in a Gold Division semifinal game of the Birmingham baseball tournament Wednesday at Grant High.
The Pioneers (8-8-1) face Franklin today at 10 a.m. in the division championship game at Birmingham.
Castonguay (3-2) allowed Barstow (10-2-1) five earned runs and six hits in six innings with six strikeouts and six walks.
Brandon Voorhees hit three doubles, and Dave Krewson doubled and hit a two-run home run. Krewson is batting .688 in the past five games.
In other Birmingham tournament games:
Franklin 5, El Camino Real 3--Shaun Fishman struck out with the bases loaded and two out in the bottom of the seventh as the Conquistadores (9-8) lost a Gold Division semifinal at El Camino Real.
Fishman (4-3) pitched a nine-hitter, striking out five and allowing three earned runs.
Granada Hills 5, San Clemente 2--Carlos Rodriguez drove in two runs with a first-inning triple for the Highlanders (10-7) in a Blue Division semifinal at Birmingham.
Granada Hills plays San Fernando today at 3 p.m. at Birmingham in the division final.
Calabasas 11, Van Nuys 0--Designated hitter Tanner Trosper had three hits, four runs batted in and two stolen bases, and Josh Goldfield had two hits and an RBI for the Coyotes (11-2-2) in a consolation game.
Cleveland 13, Taft 4--Kelvin Delgado had two hits, including a two-run homer, scored twice and had three RBIs as the Cavaliers (11-6) defeated the Toreadors (7-12) in a consolation game.
Cleveland’s Greg Walter also had two hits, including a three-run home run. Freshman Dan Palardy (3-0) pitched 5 2/3 innings.
Reseda 6, Wilson 3--Alfredo Sanez had three hits and three RBIs, and Oscar Cardona added three hits and an RBI for the Regents (5-6) in a consolation game at Reseda.
Channel Islands 6, Montclair Prep 4--Daniel Tuando had three hits and an RBI for the Raiders (10-9) in a consolation game at Taft High.
In other tournaments:
Royal 11, San Marcos 0--Adrian Mendoza (4-1) pitched a one-hitter and had six strikeouts, and added three hits and two RBIs for the Highlanders (12-1) in a first-round game of the Dos Pueblos tournament at San Marcos (10-3-1).
Ryan Nielsen had two doubles and a home run for Royal.
Sonora 15, Rio Mesa 6--Freshman pitcher Greg Ramirez (0-1) allowed 10 hits and six earned runs in three-plus innings of a first-round Dos Pueblos tournament game at Rio Mesa.
L.A. Baptist 12, Valencia 5--John Wilson (3-1) allowed five hits in his third complete game of the season and added two RBIs for the Knights (12-4) in the third-place game of the Templeton tournament.
Notre Dame 7, Cerritos 1--Jorge Piedra had three hits and three RBIs for the Knights in the third-place game of the St. Paul tournament at Cal State Los Angeles.
Glendale 7, Hoover 5--Tony Cisneros had three hits, drove in a run and scored twice as the Dynamiters (11-2) captured third place in the Babe Herman tournament.
Crescenta Valley 7, Rosemead 5--Jesse Daggett and Nathan Sinning each had two hits for the Falcons (9-6) in the Babe Herman tournament consolation final.
Chaminade 8, Laguna Beach 1--Ryan Hamill had three hits and two RBIs for the Eagles (13-3-1) in a consolation game of the Corona del Mar tournament.
Westlake 8, Newbury Park 4--Matt Riordan had four hits, and Mike McHargue and Todd Kostjuk each hit home runs for the Warriors (7-6, 3-2) in a Marmonte League game at Newbury Park (8-6, 2-4).
