PALM SPRINGS — Bob Bryan of Camarillo had a bittersweet day.
Bob, along with his twin, Mike, won the doubles title Saturday at the Easter Bowl National Junior Championships.
But Bob lost in the 18-and-under singles championship of the nation’s largest junior invitational tournament.
Bob fell to top-seeded Michael Russell of Bloomfield Hills, Mich., 7-5, 6-0, at the Riviera Resort & Country Club, but was still upbeat.
“I think its’s a good breakthrough for me,” said Bob. “It’s my first major finals in singles.”
In doubles, the Bryans defeated Alex Hur and Mitchell Koch, 6-1, 6-1.
The twins didn’t have their serve broken and won their eighth national doubles title.
“We never get bored of them,” Mike said.
Said Bob: “I wanted to go home happy, especially after that singles match.”
Erin Boisclair of Agoura Hills and Stephanie Hazlett of Grandview, Ind., lost in the girls’ 18-year-old doubles final to Diana Ospina and Brenda Vlasak, 6-1, 6-3.
