. . . Orange County was one of the nation’s strongest markets for sales of the relatively new compact discs.
County record stores reported that CDs accounted for a third of their sales, compared with 10% to 15% nationwide. “Teenagers will buy records they can play, scratch and take to the beach and parties,” one record store owner predicted, “and adults will buy CDs.”
