From Times Staff and Wire Reports
Two Marines who refused to give blood samples for a DNA registry were found guilty of disobeying a lawful order but were spared the stockade and a bad conduct discharge. Cpl. John C. Mayfield III, 21, of Dallas and Cpl. Joseph Vlacovsky, 25, of Canton, Ohio, were both sentenced to a seven-day restriction that keeps them from leaving the Kaneohe Marine Base. The ruling means they will be allowed to leave the service with honorable discharges. Mayfield’s enlistment ends this week and Vlacovsky’s next month.
